Hollabaugh and Withers win Lake of Ozarks for second time

Teens fishing for scholarships held a one day event on Lake of the Ozarks October 10, 2020. The tournament had been rescheduled from earlier in the year due to Covid. The tournament has no entry fee and is totally sponsored driven, giving the teens a chance to win scholarship money. The weigh in was held at Franky and Louie’s on the lake. Sunny skies allowed temperatures to get in the upper 80’s and brought out the boat traffic. Over all fishing was tough as anglers had to deal with bigger fish seemingly staying in deep water and in the beds.

Jeffery Hollabaugh, from Marshal, MO. and Eddie Withers from Sedalia, MO., took their second Lake of the Ozarks title to win $5,200.00 in scholarship money sponsored by Allegro Marinade. They won the 2019 Lake of the Ozarks tournament also. The Mid State Seed sponsored team weighed in 5.46 lbs. and a big fish that weighed 1.39 lbs. for the big fish scholarship bonus from Ruth Ferguson Robert Taylor Insurance sponsor.

They stated they were spider rigging in 18-20 foot waters in the Gravois area. They used double minnow rigs fishing brush tops. The team dealt with fog during the morning and caught most of their fish at that time. They moved locations without success and moved back to the Gravois area.

Second place went to the team of Makayla and Kiara Sensenig from Versailles, MO. The sister team earned $3,000.00 in scholarships sponsored by Frontier Metal. They weighed in

4.88 lbs. and had 1.0 lb big fish. They had a busy day catching over 80 fish during the day. They were spider rigging with minnows in the Wigwam area. Their plans at this time are to become a lawyer and teach.

Keegan Bullock and Travis Bailey from Gravois, Mo. and Versailles, MO. took third place. They weighed in 3.10 lbs. and earned $2,000 in scholarship money sponsored by Mid State Seed. They were spider rigging with double hook minnow rigs using Ozark Rods. They fished in10-20 foot waters around the 65 mile marker and reported having a tough time getting the bites.

Fourth place was Fletcher Bias and Reese Murdock from Versailles, MO. The team weighed in 2.98 lbs and a .71 lbs. big fish. They earned $1,000.00 in scholarship money sponsored by Power Pole and Ozark Rods.

Boat captains that took the teens fishing were all entered into a drawing for a Power Pole. Congratulations go to Brian Thomas for winning the drawing. We want to thank all the anglers that took a teen fishing for the competition.
